In 1926, Babe Ruth participated in a dangerous stunt, years after catching a baseball that was dropped from the top of the Washington Monument. This stunt inflated the degree of difficulty with an added component of horizontal movement. The Sultan of Swat had this bat dropped from an airplane. The site of the event was the Mitchel Air Force Base on Long Island, about twenty-five miles east of the House that Ruth Built in the Bronx. The top-ranking official at the airfield was a gentleman named Colonel Benjamin Delahauf Foulois, a man best remembered for his close work with the Wright brothers in building aircrafts for military use. This 35" retail model bat is signed and inscribed, "Col. B.D. Foulois, From 'Babe' Ruth." The black fountain pen ink averages an 8 in our opinion against the dark wood background. A unique relic from yet another fascinating chapter in the Babe Ruth story. Accompanied by Full PSA/DNA and JSA LOAs.
