The two “American National Game Of Base Ball” lithographs which picture the action from the 1865 Grand Baseball Match at the Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey, is a reproduction of the famous Currier & Ives print originally produced in 1866. Sidney Lucas made beautiful reproductions over the years in a colorful aquatint print, but few are familiar with the earlier edition executed in muted tones. Offered in this lot is one of the colorful aquatint prints produced by Sidney Lucas, and also the earlier version executed in muted tones. The Lucas print is approximately 23.5x17.5 and is mounted on canvas while the earlier muted tones print is approximately 17x13. Also in this lot is “The Champions Of The Ball Racket, On The Diamond Field”. This print measures approximately 14x10 and depicts colored men playing baseball.
