For the first time in the history of the modern Olympic Games, people in the United States and Europe called for a boycott of the Olympics in 1936 because of what would later become known as human rights abuses. The movement ultimately failed. Once the boycott movement narrowly failed, Germany had its propaganda coup: the 49 nations who sent teams to the Games legitimized the Hitler regime both in the eyes of the world and of German domestic audiences. Offered in this lot from those historic Olympics is an entire Team USA ensemble worn at the opening ceremonies. Included is an olympic dress shirt, two pairs of slacks, an olympic blazer, vest, and tie. The shirt and tie have the Olympic rings on them and the blazer and sweater have a United States patch also with the Olympic Rings. This United States patch with the rings is also on three of the four blazer buttons and with one of the decals having fallen off. The pieces are in outstanding overall condition. The athlete who wore this ensemble was American Baseball player Grover Galvin Jr.
