Tony Dorsett played his high school football at Hopewell High before going on to have a Hall of Fame NFL career. As a high school sophomore in 1970, Dorsett started at cornerback, as his coaches did not believe the 147 pound Dorsett was big enough to play running back, the position he played in junior high school. In 1971, a competition between Dorsett and sophomore Michael Kimbrough for the starting running back position ended after Dorsett took a screen pass 75 yards for a touchdown during the season opener. Dorsett ended the year as an All-State selection after rushing for 1,034 yards and scoring 19 touchdowns, while leading the Vikings to a 9–1 season. In 1972, Dorsett was again an All-state Selection, setting a single-season rushing record with 1,238 yards and the career rushing record with 2,272 yards, while leading the Vikings to a 9–1 season. The inside padding and chinstrap are intact. Handwritten inside the shell is the player name “DORSETT” which has been crossed out with an additional players name written below which was worn later. Additional notations are inside the ear flaps. The helmet originally was white with two blue stripes. The team’s helmets were painted gold prior to the 1973 season to give the uniforms a new look. The facemask is no longer present but remnants of the original clips still remain and there is a "72" time clock stamp which indicates that it was used by Tony D. during his vaunted senior season. Heavy game wear is present throughout including hit marks. The helmet was sourced from the head coach Richard Ross however the LOA has been lost over time but a copy of the original LOA is included.
