"Pistol” Pete scored 40 or more points in 13 games, including a 68 point performance against the New York Knicks in one game. The NBA has recognized Maravich’s importance to the game by selecting him as one of the game’s 50 Greatest Players in 1996. Nine years earlier, he was enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Contract dated “August 10th, 1977” binding Pete Maravich to the New Orleans Jazz for five seasons (1977-1982). The financial breakdown of the contract details his compensation and deferred or additional
compensation from the 1977-78 season until the 1981-82 season. The contract states “It is acknowledged by both parties that the Player is using that certain Porsche Carerra automobile (the “Porsche”) leased by the Club and provided by the Club to the Player”. This automobile was custom made for Pistol. 18 pages all together including public notary paperwork. This is a duplicate of the original contract number three of five, which was held in the NBA offices for organizational purposes. An identical contract in a prior SCP auction that we believe to also be a duplicate recently sold for more than $9,000.
