Hall of Famer Earl Campbell was the first overall pick by the Houston Oilers in the 1978 draft. In his first professional season, he won the Rookie of the Year award and later won an MVP award. To maintain fairness among all 32 teams, the NFL banned tear-away jerseys in 1979 so runners couldn’t use them to escape tackles which makes this a true rookie jersey. On the front left tail is the Russell Athletic manufacturer’s tag size “46” with washing instructions. The player number “34” appears across the front, back and on both sleeves painted in white on red. Across the back is the player name “CAMPBELL” painted in white. Campbell signed the back of the jersey in black marker and in our opinion rates a 7. Vintage condition issues are present including staining and multiple unrepaired holes scattered throughout. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding use. Accompanied by a Full LOA from JSA.
