“Mr. Padre” was an eight-time National League batting champion, which is tied for the most in NL history and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 on the first ballot. Gwynn batted .300 or higher in every season except his rookie year, giving him a record 19 straight seasons above .300. This jersey was worn on September 14th, 1997 when he recorded career hits 2,762 and 2,763 against the St. Louis Cardinals. On the front left tail is the Russell Athletic manufacturer’s tag size “50” with washing instructions. Handwritten on this tag is “9/14/97 #2762 #2763 STL”. The jersey shows great wear throughout including Gwynn’s pine tar stains on the upper left chest, on the back of both shoulders and on the back next to the player number. Across the chest reads “SAN DIEGO” and on the back is the player number “19” in navy blue on white on orange tackle twill. Across the back is the player name “GWYNN” in navy blue tackle twill. On the right sleeve is the “Jackie Robinson 50th BREAKING BARRIERS” patch and on the left sleeve is a Padres team logo patch. Gwynn signed the back of the jersey in blue marker and in our opinion rates a strong 8. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA.
