In 1998, the New York Yankees compiled an almost unthinkable 125-50 overall record during the regular season, playoffs, and World Series. Surely playing a part in that success were the efforts of Yankees bullpen coach Tony Cloninger, who held that role on each of the last four Yankees championship teams. As a result, Cloninger was awarded this championship ring to commemorate the Bronx Bombers' 1998 World Series win. The 14K ring, size 14 and in excellent-plus to near mint condition, has the engraving Balfour 14K inside. The ring is engraved World Champions 1998 around the top. At the recessed top of the ring are 24 small diamonds, totaling approximately one carat and spelling out the NY Yankee logo over a large blue stone. Around the interior crown at the top of the ring are an additional 24 small diamonds, also totaling approximately one carat. On the left shank is the name Cloninger, a gold World Series Trophy set against Yankee Stadium, and the word Tradition. On the right shank is the team's record 125-50, a Yankee top hat logo over a ball, and the words Best Ever. The ring comes in the original New York Yankees wood presentation box with "New York Yankees 1998 World Champions" engraved on the glass. "T. Cloninger Size 14" is typed onto a white label attached to the bottom of the box. The ring, which is in excellent to near mint condition showing nice wear, comes with a letter from Tony Cloninger addressing the friend to whom he gave the ring, calling it "a token of our friendship." Possibly the most beautiful item in this auction!
