George "The Iceman" Gervin was a star shooting guard for the ABA's Virginia Squires and San Antonio Spurs. Gervin averaged at least 14 points in all 14 of his ABA and NBA seasons, and finished with an NBA career average of 26.2 points per game. His first scoring crown in 1978 was one of the most memorable moments in NBA history. Gervin defeated the Denver Nuggets' David Thompson by seven hundredths of a point (27.22 to 27.15). Although Thompson came up with a memorable performance for the last game of the regular season, scoring 73 points, Gervin maintained his slight lead by scoring 63 points (including an NBA-record 33 in the second quarter). Gervin went on to lead the NBA in scoring average three years in a row from 1978 to 1980 and again in 1982. George Gervin had the most scoring titles of any guard in league history. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1996, the same year he was voted an NBA Top 50 Player. Gervin was presented this 2005 NBA Championship ring as a special contributor to the Spurs. This magnificent size 11.5, 14k white gold ring weighs 63 grams with a total diamond weight of 2.55 carats. The top panel features a diamond-encrusted Spurs logo on top of a gold Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy with a .20-carat round-cut diamond. Surrounding that is an oval ring made up of baguette-cut diamonds. Approximately 1.25-carats worth of small round-cut diamonds emblazon the face and sides of this stunning ring. The left panel features the name “GERVIN” above a casted image of the official NBA logo along with the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons logos and the numbers “4” and “3”, indicating the result of the best-of-seven series. Below that at the bottom of the shank is Gervin’s nickname “ICE” and a banner engraved with the team’s record, “59-23”. The right panel reads “NBA CHAMPIONS” above a casted image of a hammer cracking a diamond-covered rock. Below that is the year “2005” and a banner engraved with “99 03”, the years of the two previous San Antonio championships. The inside of the ring is stamped “14K”. The ring is in MINT overall condition, comes with the original presentation box and is accompanied by an LOA from George Gervin.
