On Thursday, August 2, 1979, Thurman Munson was killed when the Cessna Citation CE-501 twin-engine jet he was piloting crashed short of the runway while attempting to land at Akron-Canton Airport, less than 10 miles from Munson’s home in Canton, Ohio. This is Thurman Munson’s Federal Aviation Administration Temporary Airman Certificate #289465337 measures 5-½” x 4”. It has been graded Authentic (PSA/DNA Cert# 83284927) and encapsulated to measure approximately 10” x 6-¾”. The certificate has been filled out in blue ballpoint pen and signed “Thurman L. Munson” in black ballpoint pen, the signature in our opinion rates a strong 8. The date of issuance is listed as July 17, 1979, just sixteen days before the date of the tragic plane crash that claimed Munson’s life. The certificate lists Munson’s North Canton, Ohio address, his birthdate as “06-07-47”, his height as “70 in.”, and his weight as “200”. The privileges for the certificate has been filled out as “Private Pilot” with “Airplane single and multiengine land”, “CE500” and “Instrument Airplane” listed as the ratings and limitations. There is a single crease where it was once folded in half, it is in NM condition overall. Accompanied by a Full LOA from JSA.
