On June 13, 1948, Babe Ruth announced his retirement to the Yankees due to illness. Ruth would die two months after this photo was taken. It was on the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium—the House that Ruth built—and the day his No. 3 was retired. Nat Fein of the N.Y. Herald Tribune captured this unforgettable black and white photo titled “The Babe Bows Out”. 16” x 20” photo inside a 28” x 29” framed display. Below the photo is an inset of Nat Fein’s autograph in pencil, and in our opinion, rates a 7. This photo won Fein won the Pulitzer Prize for Photography in 1949. The New York Times called it “The most celebrated photograph in sports history” in 1992, and in 1999, Life Magazine called it one of the greatest pictures of the 20th century. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA and a Nate Fein Estate LOA.
