Joe DiMaggio could do everything well. He may have been the best all-around player ever, with a generous dash of class added in. DiMaggio was a beautiful hitter with a classic swing. He had an exceptionally wide stance that gave him a controlled short stride, strong wrists that generated enormous power, and the ability to wait until the last instant before lashing into a pitch. He was a splendid defensive outfielder with a great throwing arm, and his all-around play and leadership guided the Yankees to nine World Championships. The "Yankee Clipper" became an instant star when he came to New York in 1936 and set AL rookie records for runs (132) and triples (15), besides hitting .323 with 29 HR and 125 RBI. This extremely well-worn DiMaggio Yankees navy cap dates to circa 1936, his rookie season, due to its style, soft bill, and tagging. The Yankees' "NY" logo is embroidered onto the top in white. On the inside band is the "Spalding" label and DiMaggio's name was stitched in to the right of this. Due to wear, only "J. D" remains of the name. The size "7" was stitched in between the name and the Spalding label. The cap has been signed inside the front band in black marker with a signature that rates a 6. It shows tremendous game use and comes with an additional letter. The autograph comes with a PSA/DNA letter of authenticity. Between this cap and the Ted Williams cap we are offering, one lucky bidder can have the opportunity to jump-start an extraordinary game-used cap collection. (Ex-Halper)
