After playing at New York University as a stand out collegian, he spent all of his 13 years in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, being part of eight championship teams in 1961-66, 1968 and 1969. In NBA history, only teammates Bill Russell and Sam Jones have won more championship rings during their playing careers. He ended his career in 1973 and was elected to the Basketball Hall of fame in 2011. In 1967, Celtics great Bill Russell actually redesigned the team shooting shirts of this era, taking the number off the back and adding the player name, taking “BOSTON” off the front and adding “CELTICS” and adding the player number to the sleeve; a beautiful style. Inside the rear collar of this green road warm-up is the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and size “46” which is heavily faded. Across the front is “CELTICS”. On back is player name “SANDERS”. Player number “16” appears on the left sleeve. All numbers and letters are done in white tackle twill. The shirt shows great wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a LOA from Satch Sanders.
