Dick Butkus was widely regarded as one of the best and most durable linebackers of all time. He played nine seasons in the NFL, all for the Chicago Bears. He was an 8-time Pro Bowler, 6-time First-Team All-Pro, a 2-time NEA NFL Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the NFL 75th Anniversary, NFL 1960s All-Decade and NFL 1970s All-Decade teams. Butkus’ number 51 has been retired by the Bears and he was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979. On the front left tail is the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and an indecipherable size. Across the front, on back and on each sleeve is the player number “51” in navy blue screenprint. Across the back is the player name “BUTKUS” in navy blue tackle twill on a white mesh nameplate. Butkus has signed the back of the jersey in blue marker with the added inscription “#51”, in our opinion the signature rates an 8. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
