A seven-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, Thurman Munson was named the first New York Yankees captain since Lou Gehrig. Munson won the American League Rookie of the Year, AL MVP and has his No. 15 retired by the team. To earn AL MVP honors, Munson had a .302 batting average with 17 home runs and 105 RBI. Inside on the leather sweatband is a “PRO KM CAP” manufacturer’s tag and adjacent is the “PRO KM CAP” stamp with the size “7 3-8”. On the underside of the brim is the player number “15” written in pen and on the front of the cap is the team’s “NY” logo embroidered in white stitching. This cap matches known authenticated examples for both tagging and size. The flat brim is reminiscent of Munson’s style behind the plate, where he always wore a backwards cap when catching, and not a helmet. This cap is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows light wear. Our consignor has had this cap in his possession since 2008.

Please note that a correction and/or update has been made to this lot and the printed catalog differs from what is online.
