Two programs from the July 4, 1939 doubleheader between the Washington Senators and the New York Yankees. This doubleheader on Independence Day is historically significant as it was Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day at Yankee Stadium and it was that day that Gehrig would deliver his farewell speech and the famous line, “I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.” Both of the programs have been scored in pencil. Each measures 6-5/8” x 9-7/8” and both are in VG condition. Two scored programs from the July 1, 1941 doubleheader between the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. In the first game DiMaggio extended his hit streak to 43 consecutive games and in the second game The Yankee Clipper tied the all-time hitting streak record set by Wee Willie Keeler in 1897. Both of the programs have been scored in pencil with various notations including the date, “first game”, “second game”,“Joe DiMaggio tied the Major League record for hitting in consecutive games” and “44” circled on the cover. There is an added notation on the second program where the game was called due to rain after the fifth inning. Joe DiMaggio autographed the cover of the program for the second game, the signature is done in blue ballpoint pen and in our opinion rates a 8-9. Included with the program is a flyer from the April 25-26, 1992 event where DiMaggio signed the program. The programs measure 6-5/8” x 9-7/8” and both are in VG condition. Accompanied by a Full LOA from JSA.
