In the summer of 1941, millions followed the daily drama that would transform a young Yankee named Joe DiMaggio into an American legend - the streak of hitting safely in 56 straight games. The record stands undiminished to this day, having become a baseball benchmark and described by baseball writer Roger Angell as the "primo batting number in the sport." This 14-1/2" trophy features a hollow plastic base with mounted swinging baseball player, made of plated hollow cast metal. The affixed plaque reads "Joe DiMaggio, 56 Game Hitting Streak," Presented By S.F. Old Timers Ass'n." The plaque shows some scratching, abrasions and minor glue remnants. The swinging baseball player shows a few scratches, nicks and tiny chips on the plating, still shines like a beauty.
