Six letters sent to “Little” Johnny Sylvester ranging in date from the time of Little Johnny’s accident in October of 1926 to April of 1947. Get well letter from a fan, C.S. Titus, typed and signed, dated 10/8/1926 on his company’s letterhead, 8-½” x 11”, VG condition. Rogers Hornsby (ch) hand-written and signed, dated 10/9/1926 on “St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Club” letterhead, 8-½” x 11”, EX condition. Get well letter from a fan dated 12/24/1926, 8-½” x 11”, EX condition. Letter from a fan, Miss Diana C. Palese of North Pelham, New York, dated 4/29/1947 inquiring if Johnny could send her Babe Ruth’s address, 6” x 8-¾”, EX condition. Typed, unsigned letter from an unnamed fan dated April 29, 1947 after Johnny’s story was re-run in the Baltimore News Post. The fan says he is glad to see Johnny is “alive and strong and healthy and that those nasty ole Japs didn’t get you while you were commanding out in the far reaches of the blue Pacific.” He wishes Johnny luck the “best of luck” and closes the message with the line, “Yeah, you son of a bitch you still owe me a letter.” 8-½” x 11”, EX condition. Hand-written, signed letter from Joe Irving of Washington, D.C., mentions finding an old photo of Johnny and wishes him well, 8-½” x 11”, EX condition. Accompanied by a LOA from “Little” Johnny’s son, John Sylvester, Jr.
