This size 9.5, 14k gold players ring weighs 23 grams. It was presented to Hall of Famer Vernon “Lefty” Gomez and his New York Yankees teammates for winning the World Series. The ring shows signs of heavy wear, the “NEW YORK YANKEES - WORLD CHAMPIONS” lettering on the top panel is not visible. Laurelled leaves and a baseball diamond appear in the center of the top panel surrounding five round-cut diamonds commemorating the Yankees’ fifth World Championship. The diamonds have a total diamond weight of approximately .50-carats. The left and right panels are identical and both are heavily worn; each featured the casted image of a baseball above an eagle with the stars and stripes shield and the year below in relief. A banner above the eagles once read “NEW YORK” in relief but is no longer visible. The inside of the ring is stamped “D&C 14K” (Dieges & Clust) and is engraved with the player name “Vernon Gomez”. The ring is in VG condition with the aforementioned heavy wear from extended use. It is unknown which year this ring was issued for due to the extensive wear making the panels unreadable. Gomez and the Yankees won the World Series in 1932, '36, '37, '38, and '39. It differs from many other Championship rings from this era as it has five diamonds in the center instead of the standard single stone. The five diamonds may have been requested to commemorate Gomez's fifth Championship in 1939. We were told by our consignor that the ring originated from a Gomez family member. Accompanied by an additional LOA.
