Billy Sims was a two-time Consensus All-American while at the University of Oklahoma winning the coveted Heisman Trophy in 1978. During his Heisman campaign Sims rushed for 1,762 yards on only 231 rushing attempts scoring 20 touchdowns. Sims narrowly missed a consecutive Heisman trophy in 1979. Sims was later selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three NFL seasons. This jersey is attributed to the most rushing yards in a single game in Sims’ collegiate career against Missouri on November 17th, 1979. Sims rushed for 282 yards and scored a touchdown in the 24-22 victory. The jersey is sans a manufacturer’s tag and the tail has been cut below the numbers. The player number “20” is on the front, back and on both sleeves painted in maroon. Across the back is the player name “SIMS” in maroon tackle twill on a white nameplate. Sims signed the back of the jersey in bold black marker with the added inscription “NOV. 17 V.S. MISSOURI 1979” and in our opinion rates a strong 8. Football related staining is present throughout the front and back and there is slight fading to the back numbers. This jersey was originally obtained from Sims and the tail was cut short and worn by his son afterwards. There are unknown black marker notations on the front of the jersey. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use.
