The 1928 NY Yankees swept the St. Louis Cardinals in four games during the World Series, winning the Fall Classic for the second consecutive season. OAL Barnard baseball signed by 27 members of the 1928 World Champion NY Yankees including Babe Ruth and owner Jacob Ruppert on the sweet spot, each signed in black steel tip fountain pen with the Ruth rating a 7 and the Ruppert a 6-7. Other signatures on the ball include Lou Gehrig rating a 7, Leo Durocher, Bill Dickey, Earle Combs, Pat Collins, Tony Lazzeri (faded), Tom Zachary, Ben Paschal, Bob Meusel, Fred Heimach, Mike Gazella, Myles Thomas, Rosy Ryan, Mark Koenig, George Pipgras, John Grabowski, Waite Hoyt (faded), Hank Johnson, Bennie Bengough, Joe Dugan, Cedric Durst, Arthur Fletcher (coach). All signatures are done in black steel tip fountain pen and rate an overall 6. The ball is EX with some toning and light scuffing. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA. It is further accompanied by a LOA from our consignor which states, in part, “Years ago, my grandmother worked for Miss Winnie Wyant (companion of Col. Jacob Ruppert, owner of the Yankees)...at some point, Winnie gifted these two baseballs (also the 1930 ball in this auction). She explained that Ruppert would visit the Yankees clubhouse and ask the players to sign baseballs to give to friends”. A great Championship Yankees team ball with Murderers Row originally sourced directly from Jacob Ruppert.
