After a surprising three-year pennant drought, the Yankees climbed once again to the top of the American League, finishing 13 games ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Athletics. The 1932 New York Yankees featured a roster with nine future Hall of Famers led by Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and manager Joe McCarthy. The Bronx Bombers would face the Chicago Cubs, champions of the National League, in the 1932 Fall Classic. The Yankees, incidentally, were managed by Joe McCarthy, who skippered the Cubs to their last pennant in 1929, but was fired after finishing second in 1930. The matchup with the Cubs showcased fourteen future Hall of Famers, tied for the most in any World Series with the 1928 Fall Classic between the Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals. The series is most remembered for Babe Ruth’s “Called Shot” during Game 3 in Chicago. Ruth walked up to the plate in the fifth inning to a chorus of heckling catcalls, pointed out into the distance and promptly drove a Charlie Root pitch over the wall in deep center field. Gehrig followed it up with a blast of his own and the Yankees were on their way to a 7-5 victory and a 3-0 series lead. The Yankees outscored the NL Champs by 18 runs in their four-game sweep of the series; the 7th World Series title for the franchise. This size 9.5, 14k gold players ring weighs 28 grams. It was presented to outfielder Samuel Byrd following the Yankees’ win in the 1932 World Series. Sam Byrd was known as “Babe Ruth’s Legs”, as he frequently pinch ran for The Bambino. The top panel reads “NEW YORK YANKEES WORLD CHAMPIONS” surrounding a .66-carat round-cut diamond in the center. The left and right panels are identical, both featuring the casted image of a baseball above an eagle with the stars and stripes shield and “1932” below in relief. The inside of the ring is stamped “B&G 14K” and engraved with the player name “Samuel Byrd”. The ring is in EX-NM condition with moderate wear. Accompanied by a LOA from the Byrd Family.
