Frank Frisch came right off the Fordham University campus in 1919 to join the New York Giants, beginning a 19-season Hall of Fame career that saw "The Fordham Flash" become the backbone of two team's winning fortunes. Frisch, a fiery, spit-in-your-eye leader and superb 2B and SS (641 assists and 1,059 chances in 1927 are records at 2B), captained the Giants to four straight NL pennants from 1921 to 1924. He then sparked the St. Louis Cardinals' "Gashouse Gang" to four pennants and two championships, the last as player-manager in 1934 when the Redbirds beat the Detroit Tigers in a tumultuous World Series. In 1940, Frisch became the Pittsburgh Pirates manager for the next seven seasons. This remarkable lot consists of Frisch's entire road flannel uniform worn in 1946, his last season as Bucs manager. The zipper-front jersey collar label has "Wilson" with size tag "44". Below this is a grey felt patch with "Frisch" chain-stitched in black. Across the front is "Pittsburgh" in red felt on blue felt backing. The number "35" is on the back in red felt on blue felt. There is blue/red/blue piping on each sleeve end, the neck and down the front. Included in this lot are pants, and a belt. In the waistband of the pants is the "Wilson" label and size tag "38" and a grey felt patch with "Frisch" chain-stitched in black. This magnificent uniform shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a Mears LOA Graded A9.
