In 1996, 12-time All-Star Dolph Schayes was selected as one of the 50 Greatest NBA players of all-time. The Hall of Famer was Syracuse’s top scorer in 13 of the club's 17 years in existence. Schayes never played for another organization, logging 15 seasons with Syracuse, following the team as it became the Philadelphia 76ers, and then becoming its coach, where he would win 1966 NBA Coach of the Year honors. Schayes captured an NBA Championship with Syracuse in the 1954-1955 season, the first in which the 24-second shot clock was in effect, and it allowed Schayes and his teammates enough time to mount a big second half comeback in Game 7 of that Championship Series. Offered is the only known jacket from Schaye’s time in Syracuse. On the inside right button path is the Rawlings manufacturers tag size “48”. Adjacent is the “Joe Charles Sport Shop” distributors tag. On the left chest is a “SYRACUSE Nationals” team logo patch embroidered. On the front right tail is the player number “4” in blue on red on white tackle twill. Across the back reads “SYRACUSE” in the same tackle twill. Down the trim is a sweater material alternating in red, white and blue. This is the second known piece of Schayes items from his time in Syracuse that we have ever seen. A rare offering from one of the NBA’s greats sourced directly from the Schayes family. This jacket is properly tagged, was presented to us as player-worn and shows wear. Accompanied by a Schayes family LOA.
