This jersey is a very important piece of baseball history. Japanese-born former professional baseball player and manager who is currently the chairman of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). Oh spent his four-decade long playing career entirely with the Yomiuri Giants. Similar to our Babe Ruth, in two ways - 1. He batted and threw left-handed. 2. He originally signed with the Giants in 1959 as a pitcher but was soon converted to a full-time hitter. He holds the world career home run record at 868, nearly 100 more than MLB record holder. In addition to the world career home run record, Oh’s accolades include: 5 time batting champ, 2x Triple Crown Winner, 11x Japan Series Champion and 9x Central League MVP! He was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. Inside the back of the neck, is the ‘TAMAZAW’ label. Team name (GIANTS) across the front, player number (1) below that and on the back, and ‘TOKYO’ on the left sleeve - all done in black on orange tackle twill. There is faint Japanese writing inside the button tail. The SIA letter states “There are a few loose threads throughout the sleeve and neck trim, and several small holes can be found throughout the jersey. A tear has been repaired on the left chest between the “T” and the “S” in “GIANTS”. The player’s number “1” on the front and the back have been restored, and a careful light table examination shows that this is an exact restoration.” This jersey is properly tagged, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate wear. Accompanied by a Bill Henderson Document, as well as a SIA LOA.
