This extremely rare jersey comes from the 1961 season when Mantle was chasing Maris, and they were both chasing the Great Bambino and his single season home run record. On the front left tail of the jersey is the "SPALDING" manufacturer's tag. Attached is a tag reading "42" indicating jersey size. Below that is "61" stitched in navy blue indicating this momentous year. On the left breast is the "Yankees" team logo patch. On the back of the jersey is the player number "29" done in navy blue velvet. Inside the back of the neck is a strip tag reading "Torgeson". The name has been replaced. The jersey shows game-use, and except for the above mentioned change appears to have no alterations of any kind.
