The 1962 season was the inaugural season for the New York Mets franchise, as the National League returned to New York City for the first time since 1957. Presented is a road flannel jersey worn by pitcher Al Jackson. Jackson was originally issued this jersey in ‘62 when he wore the number “15”. On the front left tail is the Wilson manufacturer’s tag size “42” with washing instructions. Inside the collar is a strip tag reading “15-1962”. On the right sleeve is the “NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR” patch. Originally issued to Jackson in 1962, there is a number change on the back to “57” when it was reissued for subsequent seasons. The New York World’s Fair patch was added in 1964 when it was reissued to number “57” where it was likely worn in Spring Training. Across the chest reads “NEW YORK” and on the back is the player number “57”. All numbering and lettering is done in blue felt on orange tackle twill. Jackson signed the front of the jersey in blue marker and in our opinion rates an 8. Mild staining is present on the front. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use with extended organizational wear. Accompanied by an ALOA from JSA.
