The "Say Hey Kid" was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979, his first year of eligibility. Mays won two MVP awards and tied a record with twenty-four appearances in the All-Star Game. He ended his career with 660 career home runs, third at the time of his retirement, and is currently fourth all-time. Many consider him to be the greatest all-around player of all-time. On the front left tail is the "W.A. Goodman & Sons" manufacturers tag. Below this is a large grey flannel tag with "Mays 42/3 1969" black chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is "SAN FRANCISCO" in black on orange tackle twill. On the back is the player number "24" in the same tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the MLB "100th Anniversary" patch. The jersey is autographed on front in blue marker and rates a 9. On the back inside waistband of the pants is the "Rawlings" manufacturers size 32 tag. Adjacent is the wash instructions tag with the "SET 1 #8P 1970" flag tag. Next to this is a felt strip tag with "Mays 24 32 25" black chain stitch. The pants are autographed on front in black marker and rate an 8. The uniform shows game-use and there appears to be no alterations of any kind. The autographs are accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
