This rare 1970 NIT Championship watch was awarded only to coaches and players. Marquette University won the NIT Championship after their coach Al McGuire turned down a bid to the NCAA tournament as he was unhappy with the seeding the NCAA gave them. This is the only time in history this happened. This tournament also included the final college games for LSU star and Hall of Famer Pistol Pete Maravich. In addition, this tournament was LSU's only postseason appearance in 25 years (from 1954-1979). The face of the watch reads “USA” inside of a basketball and beneath is “NIT 1970 BULOVA”. Behind the face reads “HEAVY GOLD ELECTROPLATE BEZEL” and “STAINLESS STEEL BACK” engraved. The watch remains working and has minor scratches on the face that do not interfere with the ability to read the time.
