Combine a deadly jump shot, tenacious defense, obsessive perfectionism, unabashed confidence, and an uncompromising will to win, and you've got Jerry West, quite literally the embodiment of basketball and still today’s NBA logo! During his 14-year playing career with the Los Angeles Lakers, HOFer Jerry West redefined the word resume. He was the third player in league history to reach 25,000. He was an All-Star every year of his career and led Los Angeles to the NBA Finals nine times. Mr West left the game holding records for career postseason scoring and the highest average in a playoff series. West's statistical record only begins to tell his story. When the chips were down, West, with his lightning-quick release, was the guy the Lakers turned to for the big basket. Many players have been tagged with the nickname "Mr. Clutch," but none of them lived up to it as well as West did. He was responsible for perhaps the most famous buzzer-beater of all time: a 60-foot swish that tied Game 3 of the 1970 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. Elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and named to the NBA 50th Anniversary Team. This is a yellow knit Tiernan jersey worn during a Championship Season, in which the Lakers had a 33-game winning streak and won their first NBA title since moving the franchise to LA. The Tiernan label is on the front center tail. Team name (LAKERS) is done across the front and player name (WEST) across the back, both in purple on white tackle twill. Player number (44) is done on the front and back, both in white on purple drop-shadow tackle twill. This knit is a true rarity and one of the nicest West’s we have seen. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows excellent wear. Accompanied by an SCD LOA signed by Troy Kinunen, stating that this jersey was “Originally obtained directly from Jerry West”.
