Issel was drafted by the Detroit Pistons of the NBA and the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association (ABA). Issel signed to play basketball for the Colonels and the ABA. In his first season, Issel led the ABA in scoring with an average of 29.9 points per game, and pulled down 13.2 rebounds per game. He was named the ABA Rookie of the year in 1971, and was selected to the All-ABA Second Team. The following season, Issel raised his scoring average to 30.6 points per game, made the All-ABA First Team, and was named MVP of the 1972 ABA All-Star Game. On the right front tail is the "Rawlings" manufacturers size 44 tag with wash instructions. Attached is the “4”LONGER” tag. Across the front is "ABA EAST." "ABA" is done in white on red on blue triple tackle twill and "EAST" is done in white tackle twill. On the front and back is the player number "44". Across the back is the player name "ISSEL." This lettering and numbering is done in white tackle twill. Also, on front are 2 stars done in blue on white tackle twill. On the back inside waistband is the “Rawlings” manufacturers size 38 tag with wash instructions. Attached is the “4”LONGER” tag. On the right leg is “ABA” in white on red on blue triple tackle twill. On the left leg are twill red tackle twill stars. The uniform shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a LOA from Dan Issel.
