Ozzie Smith, known as "The Wizard" played shortstop a NL record 2,511 career games at the position. He won the NL Gold Glove Award for 13 consecutive seasons. A 15-time All-Star, he accumulated 2,460 hits during his career and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2002. Inside the neck is the Wilson manufacturer’s tag size “40” with washing instructions. On the front left tail is a box tag reading the year “78”. Across the front reads “SAN DIEGO padres”. Adjacent below and on the back is the player number “1” and across the back is the player name “SMITH”. All numbering and lettering is done in brown tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the “SAN DIEGO 1978 ALL-STAR GAME” patch which has been restored with an original patch with an outline of the original patch. 1978 was Smith’s rookie year and as such as the case he was likely not a part of the original order for jerseys. It appears this was a team instituted order which was locally done on a team extra jersey necessitated by him making the opening day roster. Smith signed the front of the jersey in black marker and in our opinion rates an 8. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
