After alternating NBA Championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1983-84 and 1984-85 seasons, the Boston Celtics found themselves atop the NBA again in 1985-86. The Celtics, lead by Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Larry Bird, finished 67-15 and won the Atlantic Division. Larry Bird averaged 25.8 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 6.8 apg and 2.0 spg en route to his third consecutive regular season MVP award. The Celtics defeated the Houston Rockets in the NBA Finals, where Bird averaged 24 ppg, 9.7 rpg and 9.5 apg for the series, taking home NBA Finals MVP honors. On the front left tail is a “Sand-Knit” manufacturer’s tag that reads “Designed & Tailored Exclusively For The BOSTON CELTICS”. Below is a “Sand-Knit” size “44” manufacturer’s tag. On the right inseam is a “100% NYLON” tag with washing instructions. Across the chest reads “CELTICS”. Player number “33” appears on both the front and on the back. Across the back reads player name “BIRD”. All numbering and lettering are done in the same green tackle twill. Bird signed the jersey in black marker below the front player number “33” and in our opinion, rates a 9. We were told by our consignor, the jersey was originally signed and received in 1985-86 from Bruce Walton through Bill's relationship as Larry's teammate. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA.
