Known as "The Intimidator", Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was best known for his career driving stock cars in NASCAR's top division and his success in the Winston Cup Series. He won seventy-six races, and his seven championships are tied for most all-time with Richard Petty. Tragically, Earnhardt died in a last-lap crash during the 2001 Daytona 500. Our consignor was personally handed this race worn racing suit by Dale Earnhardt, Sr. himself during a visit to his offices, wherein Dale pulled it down from a hanger. Earnhardt wore this suit in 1994 when, as defending champion, he won his record-tying seventh NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship. This feat made a case for him to be recognized as the greatest NASCAR driver ever as he matched Richard Petty's seven championship seasons. Snap-on Tools replaced MAC Tools in 1994 as an associate sponsor for Earnhardt's "Car #3." As this suit still has the original MAC logos on the sleeves and yet has the "Snap-On" logo embroidered in newer red thread on the right breast, we can definitely date this fire suit to the transition period in 1997. The heavy duty fire suit is approximately 65" from shoulder to ankle, with the top front being covered with sewn-on sponsor logos, Goodwrench being the primary. Earnhardt has autographed and inscribed the lower left breast in black marker, including his car number "#3." Suit shows very nice use with wear in the elbows and wrist cuffs, as well as some yellowing and sweat stains on the inside shoulders and waist regions. Perhaps the only true race worn autographed Earnhardt fire suit. An incredible opportunity! Signature and inscription grade an 8 to 9. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA and an additional LOA from our consignor.
