When interleague play began in 1997, New York baseball fans were thrilled to finally see regular season action between the Mets and Yankees. An even bigger thrill came when the two met in the 2000 World Series. The Yankees and Mets have had some classic games over the past six seasons and promise to have more in the future. This is a game-used on-deck circle from June 15, 2001, the first interleague game that year at Shea Stadium. It has the Mets logo in a circle on top and the Yankees in a circle on the bottom. The left side says, "New York Mets" and the right says, "New York Yankees." The inside of the circle says, "Subway Series 2001" and shows good wear from the players' cleats. This lot was purchased directly from the Mets by a season ticket holder, with documentation to that effect. It is the mate to the similar on-deck circle that we offered a few auctions ago.
