From 1903 through 1918, the Boston Red Sox captured five World Series Championships, including the very first in 1903 when they were known as the Boston Americans. A long Championship drought ensued after Red Sox owner Harry Frazee's 1920 trade of Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Although the Red Sox came close many times, including the heartbreak of 1986, they were not able to reach the promised land. The 2004 Boston Red Sox "reversed" the "Curse of the Bambino" to capture their first World Championship since 1918 and bring the World Series Trophy back to Boston. The Sox were led by, among others, Curt Schilling, the hero of the ALDS who beat the Yankees in Game Six with three sutures in the tissue around his ankle bone holding his tendons in place, bleeding evident through his sock. 11-1/2" tall at the highest flag, the trophy features a silver crown atop an arc centerpiece over a silver baseball, surrounded by 30 silver flags with black lettering on stanchions, one for each Major League team. The two World Series teams' press pins (Red Sox and Cardinals) are mounted on small poles on the 7" diameter black base, in front of the silver baseball. The surrounding silver band reads "World Series Champions, Boston Red Sox 2004, Curt Schilling". This World Series trophy, to the best of our knowledge, was never owned by Schilling. In overall NRMT-MINT condition.
