Derek Jeter is the only NY Yankee in team history to be a member of the 3,000 hit club. Not Ruth or Mantle or DiMaggio or Gehrig…Jeter. On July 9, 2011, The Captain recorded his 3,000th career hit, a home run in the third inning of an afternoon game against David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays. Jeter finished the day with five hits in five at bats, the second player to do so the day of achieving the 3,000th hit. The last of Jeter's five hits proved to be the game-winning hit. He is the only member of the 3,000 hit club to record all of his hits with the New York Yankees, and one of only two players to hit a home run for his 3,000th hit. Jeter is the second player to reach 3,000 hits as a shortstop. This baseball was used during that historic 3,000 hit game on July 9, 2011. OML Selig game-used baseball. MLB hologram numbered “FJ645030”, Steiner hologram numbered “156525”. Jeter has signed the sweet spot in blue ink adding the inscription “3000th hit 7-9-11” rating an 8-9. The ball shows game-use with dirt spotting and is accompanied by a LOA from JSA for the signature.
