Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, after hitting the game-winning shot against Georgetown as a freshman in the 1982 NCAA Finals, the 6’ 6” UNC shooting guard entered the NBA Draft two years later and was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the third overall pick. Upon landing in the Windy City, MJ wasted no time as he was named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year (1984-85) after averaging 28.2 points per game. He would go on to lead the Bulls to six NBA titles in eight years during the 1990s. Honored as the league’s MVP five different times, Jordan was named MVP of all six NBA Finals in which he competed. For good measure, he won 10 league scoring titles and was a 14-time All-Star selection. Featured here is a pair of Nike Air Jordan 1 rookie shoes worn by “His Airness” during his first season (1984-85) in the NBA. Ever since Michael made his pro debut, new models of Air Jordan sneakers have been released every year by Nike and have generated the largest buzz in the shoe industry. And it all started with the original Air Jordan 1 red, black and white colorway, which came out in early 1985. This particular pair of shoes sport the iconic “Chicago Bulls” colorway and are easily the most recognizable gamers for basketball’s most recognizable player. Black shoe laces and black Nike swooshes complement the tri-color presentation. Printed in white inside the ankle area of the right shoe is the size “13 ½” and printed in white inside the ankle of the left shoe is the size “13” which is exactly how Jordan wore them as an NBA rookie. Additional white printing on the inside of both shoes reads "850204 TYPS” with the 850204 numerals referring to the date of production. That means the shoes were made in 1985 between the months of February and April. The alpha TYPS stands for “Tong Yang Player Sample,'' which means the shoes are “Player Samples” that were produced at the “Tong Yang” factory. These shoes are properly tagged, were presented to us as game-used and show light wear. Accompanied by a LOA from our consignor who received the pair directly from the Jordans in gratitude for working on the family’s automobiles.
