Oscar Robertson was an all-around player in the true sense of the word. In the 1961-62 NBA season, "The Big O" averaged a triple-double (an extremely rare and difficult feat) for the season, with 30.8 points, 12.5, rebounds, and 11.4 assists on the year. This is one of the most remarkable records in the history of sports. Oscar was a fantastic scorer and play maker averaging over 30 points a game in six of his fourteen seasons in the NBA. Robertson was an innovator; at 6'5" he was the first big guard. In his rookie year, Robertson scored 30.5 points per game, and received Rookie of the Year honors. His next season is when he averaged a triple-double and he led the Royals to the playoffs for the next five years following. Robertson was the second pick behind Jerry West in the 1960 draft. After a rough childhood in which he was too poor to own a basketball, he signed for $33,000 a year and the rest is history. Oscar was also an unbelievable college player. He held the all-time college scoring record until "Pistol Pete Maravich" broke it at LSU. On the front left tail of this jersey is the "Wilson" manufacturer's tag. Attached is a size tag reading "44." Across the front of the jersey is "CINCINNATI." Below that and on the back is the player number "14." Across the back of the jersey is "ROBERTSON." All lettering and numbering is done in white on red tackle twill. The "Brendamoor" distributor's tag is no longer present. The jersey is autographed in between the "1" and the "4" on the back in silver marker. The autograph rates a 9. The jersey shows excellent game-use with multiple rips and tears, proof as to how elusive this nimble man was to guard, and to how few jerseys these hardnosed players got in the early days of the NBA. The jersey appears to have no alterations other than the distributor's tag. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
