Muhammad Ali first won the Heavyweight Championship in 1964 when he shocked the world by knocking out Sonny Liston in the seventh round in Miami Beach. After having his WBC belt stripped, Ali regained it in 1974 when he defeated George Foreman in the infamous "Rumble in the Jungle". The champ won the Heavyweight title for a third and final time in 1978 when he beat Leon Spinks in their rematch in New Orleans. The robe seen here was used by Ali during training after the second Spinks fight. It is a white terrycloth calf length example with a white terrycloth sash and no hood. "Muhammad Ali" is sewn on the reverse in black letter block lettering and "World 3 Champ" appears the same way on the right breast. A white label from the manufacturer with a small "R" inside a circle is sewn on the front left breast. Under the "R" is the large word "Everlast" and under that in smaller lettering is "Made in U.S.A." The lettering on the label is very faded. There are two front waist pockets in white terrycloth and a white terrycloth hook in the collar. The robe shows tremendous use, including frayed stitching, fading and some soiling. It was likely used for training for fights against Larry Holmes in 1980 and Trevor Berbick in 1981. The robe comes with COA's from Wali Muhammad and Craig Hamilton.
