After losing to the Mets in the 1969 World Series, the great Orioles team bounced back to defeat the Cincinnati Reds in the 1970 World Series, 4-1. Managed by Earl Weaver and led by three future Hall of Famers (Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson and Jim Palmer), the 1970 Orioles won 108 games with superior pitching. The trio of Palmer, Cuellar and McNally were each better than 20-game winners for a total of 64 victories among them. Slugger Boog Powell hit 35 homers with 114 RBIs to capture the MVP crown. This size ten 1970 World Series Championship ring was presented to a member of the Orioles front office (R. Whitsett). On the top is a round diamond set amidst a raised stadium with a script "Orioles" beneath. This in turn is surrounded by raised lettering that reads "Baltimore Orioles, World Champions." On the left shank is a raised American League eagle over a raised baseball surrounded by 13 raised stars. Inside this baseball are the words "1970 Champions" in raised letters. Most of the white and blue enamel that surrounded the raised letters has since come off. On the right shank is a raised "1970" with raised Orioles cap (with red enamel highlights), bat, glove, ball and banner which reads "R. Whitsett." Stamped inside is "Jenkins 14K." The ring shows light wear and is a gorgeous example from one of the all-time great baseball teams.
