Turning down an offer to play with Yankees in 1930, as he would have to compete with Lou Gehrig for the first baseman's spot, Hank Greenberg signed with the Tigers in 1930. Just as Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier in 1947, Hank Greenberg was baseball's first Jewish superstar. Despite missing five years due to injuries and military service, "Hammerin' Hank's" Hall of Fame (1956) career included 331 homers and a .313 batting average. He led the league in HRs and RBIs four times each, and was a two-time MVP. His move to the outfield from first base in 1940 to enable slugger Rudy York to find a spot on the roster helped the Tigers win the pennant that year. He has signed this white OAL Brown baseball in ballpoint on the sweet spot - the signature grades at least a strong 9. Comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
