Reggie Jackson's heroics in Game Six of the 1977 World Series earned him the title "Mr. October," and brought the Yankees their first World Championship since 1962. With his home run in the eighth inning, he became the first player since Babe Ruth to belt three homers in a World Series game, and the first to ever hit five homers in a single World Series. With 563 career four-baggers, 14-time All-Star Reggie was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993. This black batting helmet with white "NY" logo on the front was worn by Jackson during the 1977 season, his first in New York. He has signed it in silver ink on the brim "Reggie Jackson, HOF 93." The signature and inscription grade an 8-9. On the back is the manufacturer's mark "ABC" (American Baseball Cap), on top of which is Reggie's number "44." On the inside padding is written "Jax 44" in blue marker. Inside the helmet is the "7 3/8" size sticker and the "Pro-Celd" sticker. Underneath the brim is embossed "American Baseball Cap, U.S. Patent No. 2,698,434. The helmet shows tremendous game use, with countless abrasions, dents, scuff marks and dirt stains. This item carries impeccable provenance, a letter from the Yankees team photographer which states in part, "I...was given by Reggie Jackson one of his game used helmets in 1977. I was the official team photographer from 1969-1979. Reggie later autographed the helmet for me after being inducted into H.O.F." Accompanied by a LOA from Jimmy Spence of PSA/DNA.
