From the time of his first regular season in 1996, Derek Jeter has been the heart and soul of the Yankees in the modern era. The shortstop helped New York to five World Series in his first six seasons, with the Yanks winning four World Championships. In his ten-year career, Jeter hit .315, had 150 home runs and 693 RBIs in the regular season. He has had eight 100 run seasons, the most since Mantle compiled nine seasons. Jeter was the 1996 AL Rookie of the Year and 2000 World Series MVP, was named an All Star six times, and won four Gold Gloves. His MVP award in the 2001 All Star Game was the first given to a Yankee. In 2003, Jeter rebounded from an early season injury to hit .324 in the regular season and assist the Yankees into the postseason. After contributing to the AL Pennant series wins against the Twins, Jeter set his sights on leading New York to another World Championship. Despite his .346 World Series batting average, Jeter could not help the Yanks to accomplish this, and the Marlins upset New York in six games. Jeter did however set the MLB record, with 123 postseason hits. 2003 also saw another milestone in Jeter’s career: on June 3, he was named as only the 11th Yankee team captain. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Russell" manufacturers tag with wash instructions on it. Below that is an additional manufacturers tag with "2003" on it. Attached to the "Russell" tag are two additional manufacturers tags with the jersey size "48" and "100% POLYESTER" and "2" EXTRA LENGTH" on them. On the left breast of the jersey is the official "NY" logo in navy blue tackle twill. On the back of the jersey is the player number "2" in navy blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the official "Yankees 100th Anniversary" embroidered logo patch. On the right sleeve is the official "World Series 100th Anniversary" embroidered logo patch. On the back outside collar is the official "MLB" embroidered logo. The jersey shows game use with light stains on the back on the left front. The jersey appears to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a Steiner Certificate. Steiner Sports Memorabilia will personally have this jersey autographed by Derek Jeter if the winner wishes to.
