JIM "CATFISH" HUNTER was one of the great pitchers of the 1970s, helping Oakland to three World Championships in the early years of the decade. Catfish came to New York in 1975 and was a contributor to the Yankees three straight World Series appearances. Hunter went 2-1 in the 1977 series in which New York emerged as World Champions. Previous to joining the Yankees, Hunter had led the AL in wins in 1974 and 1975, in ERA in 1974, and was awarded the AL Cy Young Award in 1974. The eight-time All Star retired after the 1979 season. Hunter served as a Spring Training coach for the Yankees in 1980. On the inside right front waistband is the "Wilson" manufacturers tag with wash instructions and the pants size "35" on it. Adjacent to that is an additional manufacturers tag with "Hunter 80 1 23" in script embroidered in navy blue thread. The pants show light wear and appear to have no alterations of any kind. Accompanied by a Yankees Steiner letter.
