The Cleveland Indians payed $5,000 for the priviledge of signing Roger Maris right out of High School, keeping him away from the full athletic scholarship offered to him by the Univeristy of Oklahoma. It took him a full four years in the minor leagues to develop his skills but by the time hit the Majors in 1957, he was more than ready to play. A bit of a journey man, he finally found his fit playing with the New York Yankees in 1960 where he gained fame as the single season home run king a season later. This bat, dating to the later part of his career, displays evidence of excellent use with cleat, ball and rack marks visible about the barrell. A vintage number "9" appears on the knob end in black marker and remnants of another are still visible on the barrell end. "33" has been written on the knob in pencil indicating the weight of the bat at time of production. Manufacturer: Hillerich & Bradsby, Model Number: O16, Labeling Period: 1967-68, Length: 35 inches, Weight: 32-3/5 ounces, Wood: Ash, Finish: Standard. The bat comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
