Known simply as "Lefty," Steve Carlton was one of the most successful pitchers in the modern era. In 1967, Carlton helped St. Louis to the World Series, going 14-9 with a 2.98 ERA in the regular season. In his 23-year career he recorded six 20-win seasons. He was the league leader in wins five times, led in ERA in 1972, and led in strikeouts five seasons. Carlton was named to the All-Star team ten times, and was the first pitcher to win four Cy Young Awards. When Carlton retired after the 1988 season, he ranked second in wins and strikeouts for a left-handed pitcher. He also had a 3.22 lifetime ERA to go with his 329 wins. Carlton was elected to the Baseball HoF in 1994. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturers tag with the jersey size "46" on it. Below that is an additional manufacturers tag with wash instructions on it. Attached to that tag is an additional manufacturers tag with "SET 1 1967" on it. Across the front of the jersey is "Cardinals" in script above the "Cardinals on a bat" logo embroidered in red and yellow on black thread. Below that on the left and on the back of the jersey is the player number "32" done in red on black felt. Across the back of the jersey is "CARLTON" done in red on black felt. There is an autograph in black marker on the front and on the back of the jersey, both rate a 9. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. This jersey appears to be made for the 1967 World Series. It was never washed and still exhibits the red stains under the arms from a red undershirt. Accompanied by a LOA from one of Carlton's teammates.
