The 1987 AL Rookie of the Year, Mark McGwire helped Oakland to three straight World Series appearances, including a World Championship in 1989. One of the best sluggers of the modern era, McGwire led the USA Team to a Gold Medal in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Playing for the Athletics and the Cardinals, he was selected to the All-Star team from 1987 to 1992 and from 1995 to 1999. McGwire will probably be best remembered for setting the MLB record for home runs in a season. In 1998, he and Sammy Sosa of the Cubs dueled for the lead throughout the season. In the end, McGwire won, hitting 70 home runs to smash Roger Maris' previous record of 61. McGwire retired with 583 career home runs. On the left tail of the jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturers tag with wash instructions and the jersey size "48" on it. Across the front of the jersey is "USA" in white on blue tackle twill. Below that on the left and on the back is the player number "41" in white on blue tackle twill. Across the back is "McGWIRE" in white tackle twill on a red name panel. On the left sleeve is the official "GE USA Baseball" embroidered logo patch. On the right sleeve is the official "USA Baseball" screen-printed vinyl logo patch. Below that is the "Rawlings" embroidered logo. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
