Considered by many to be the best defensive shortstop ever, Ozzie Smith led the NL in fielding percentage seven times. The "Wizard of Oz" was known for spectacular, run-saving plays. He earned 13 Gold Gloves at shortstop from 1980 to 1992. A 14-time All-Star, Smith was awarded NLCS MVP honors in 1985. He led the Cardinals to the 1987 World Series, hitting .303 with 43 stolen bases in the regular season. Smith was elected to the Baseball HoF in 2002. Inside the back collar of the jersey is the "Wilson" manufacturers tag with wash instructions and the jersey size "42" on it. On the lower left front of the jersey is an additional manufacturers tag with "79" on it. Across the front of the jersey is "San Diego" in yellow on white tackle twill. Below that on the left and on the back is the player number "1" in yellow on white tackle twill. Across the back is "SMITH" in yellow tackle twill on a brown name plate. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
