One of the prime reasons behind the success of the Red Sox from 1984 to 1996 was pitcher Roger Clemens. Consistently able to deliver a 95+ mph fastball, Clemens quickly became the AL strike out king, including 1996 when his 257 Ks led the league. He set the MLB record with 20 strike outs in a nine inning game, a feat he accomplished twice. In a career that has continued through 2004 with the Yankees and Houston Rockets, Clemens has won six AL and one NL Cy Young Awards, recorded 328 wins with an 3.18 ERA, and thrown 4,317 strike outs, second only to Nolan Ryan. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Russell" manufacturers tag with wash instructions and the jersey size "50" on it. Below that is an additional manufacturers tag with "1996" on it. Attached to the "Russell" tag are two additional manufacturers tags with "100% Polyester" and "3" EXTRA BODY LENGTH" on them. Across the front of the jersey is "RED SOX." On the back is the player number "21." All lettering and numbering is done in red on blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the "Russell" embroidered logo. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
